LifeDev: We Create Because It’s Fun

  • Ben Clapton · 1 year ago
My project is a little bit odd, because unlike the rest of the readers, I'm not a coder, but a musician - but I find many similarities. My little project is wanting to start a jazz string quartet, and the promotion that goes with it - designing posters, websites etc (alright, I am a bit of a coder). But hopefully, if I can find the players, I should be able to start something really unique in Perth.

As a photographer i've started a project based on flower portraiture.. I try to photograph flowers like they were people posing for me, in their different expressions.. it's an odd project, i know!!!
You can look at my flowers here:

I've noticed many other people don't take joy in creating, or they even say what I create (photographs) is nice but won't make any money, meaning I should give up now.

Of course, we artists never give up!

Have you looked at WordPress MU? It's a good blogging platform, though not so good for building communities.

I totally agree with your post, Glen!

I want to make a living by earning passive income online. I tried doing it before, but because of my job, my creativity was at an all-time low. I decided to take a huge financial risk and quit my job 2 weeks ago today.

In order to to do something that I enjoy and generate income online, I'm starting up an anime review website. I want to do multiple websites, but I feel that I need to progress into something like that so I'll start off with one site besides my personal blog.

This post, on a simplistic level, smacks of elitism and superiority. Not sure if I like this bitter after taste but I hope I kind of know here your coming from....but .....it deep-ends on your context//frame of reference...could be kicking with the KKK's for all I know....let's hear it for the button pushers!

    Hi

    I am a four-seventh's creator ;)
I work a 3 day week doing the "faxing" stuff
and I spend the other 4 having fun... I can mention lots of sources of fun, but to keep it "work-orientated", it's my blog and application.

I know, from lots of experience, that a great number of people can't fathom the idea of "loving what you do and doing what you love".

    Cheers
    Juliet

It's why I blog. I need to create. I need to share my ideas with an audience.

Writing and speaking are my two favorite ways to be creative. The loveliness of creating a speech and delivering it to a receptive crowd gets me excited.

A lot of my ideas flop, but that's even cool too. Being able to make the next one better is a part of the creative process.

You sound just like my 21 yr old son, who is living @ home with us, while he finishes college (electronic communication).
Anyhoo ... he is forever creating in his computer with Blender & Python.
When he has completed something - he hunts me down in the house to show me his new animation.
The joy in his eyes is freakin awesome - I love it!!!!
    And you know what?
His creative spirit combined with his drive & focus, is what keeps him off drugs and out of trouble (even though many of his friends have taken that path).
I know he is going to be fine in this world, because as with you, creating is the fun he prefers!

    Terrific Post :-)

my next book is on fire in my heart. don't care about the money. will do what it takes to make time to create it. it's really liberating to heed to creative hunger.

The creator always have a good time with their creation, because nothing will wasted their time even that creation is failed because they will try to create something new more and more and more. Nothing will stop the creation from their creativity :)

Writing as well as verbal communication are my two beloved ways to be imaginative. The exquisiteness of creating a speech along with delivering it to an approachable crowd gets me thrilled.

I appreciate your passion and sentiment, but please take care not to arrange your own system of social class among people. This is happening more and more in American discourse, dividing the special "creators" from the supposedly mindless drones. True, very few of us want to be that half-dead office worker trapped in the cubicle, but before you write them off or consign them to pity, find out what THEY do in THEIR spare time. Maybe they go home and create, too. Or maybe they don't. The point is, don't rush to make divisions among people. That's not creative.
